Liposuction Los Angeles
Liposuction is consistently one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in Los Angeles year after year, and with good reason. No other method is more effective for removing unwanted fat.
Liposuction in Los Angeles is defined as the removal of an unwanted collection of fat by suctioning it through a small steel tube called a cannula. Not all liposuction procedures are the same, and there are various liposuction techniques available. Sometimes, liposuction is referred to as liposculpture.
The differences between liposuction, or liposculpture, techniques are the type of anesthesia used, the size of the cannulas, and whether or not a technology such as laser or ultrasound is used during the procedure. The biggest differentiating factor is what type of anesthesia is used.
Lipo can be done entirely under local anesthesia, and this is far safer than using any type of sedation, twilight, or general anesthesia. In one large study, there were no complications in over 15,000 patients treated with liposuction using local anesthesia only.
Using smaller cannulas is also advantageous. Well designed small cannulas remove fat efficiently and reduce the chances of ending up with irregularities. A liposuction surgeon who uses a small cannula is like a sculptor who uses a small chisel. The sculptor who uses a small chisel will get a smoother, more precise result.
Over the years, ultrasound and lasers have been incorporated into liposuction procedures. Some have not provided any advantage and actually increased risk, such as ultrasound assisted liposuction and external lasers, and some may offer an advantage which is not yet proven, such as laser assisted liposuction.
By far, however, the most important factor in liposuction is the surgeon’s expertise. Not all surgeons are the same, just as not all sculptors are the same. A sculptor may be trained by the world’s best teachers, but if he or she does not have the internal talent, then his or her results may never be great.
